Creativity is underrated..

In our super fast life, we keep running everyday without looking at what is in our way and who made it. There is creativity behind every thing in our lives and I wish we see and appreciate the creator whenever we get a chance. I believe that creativity is a virtue and we don't give enough importance to it in our education system. Creativity combined with curiosity can make your child the next Einstein.
I get inspired by arts and designs and spend a lot of time reading about them. Here's one site I visit very often : http://designflute.wordpress.com/
There is an artist hiding in every one of us waiting to be unleashed. Some of us feel that and try to bring out the artistic skills. But some of us let the left brain take over our lives. The next time you see something you like, please think about who created it and how it must have been created. Most importantly please make it a habit for your kids to think about how everything is created and how they can change or redesign things to fit their needs.

15 things to do before I turn 35

Happy new year everyone!!

2008 was a great for my family personally as we welcomed a new member. He is such a joy to be around and makes all of us smile even when we are not in the mood.

I finally found some time to think about what I want to change in 2009. While doing that, I also thought of a few things I would like to do before I turn 35. Here's my list: (not in any particular order)

1. Be an MBA graduate
2. Fly in a helicopter
3. Go on a culinary tour
4. Grow my own vegetables
5. Learn to swim
6. Run a marathon
7. Meet Warren Buffet
8. Meet Bill Gates
9. Attend Barack Obama's speech
10. Start a book club
11. Attend Dessert Expo in Las Vegas
12.Watch US Open in person
13. Watch New Year's eve ball dropping at Times Square
14. Learn to play piano
15. Live in a foreign country for 2 months (by this I mean a country other than USA and India)

Let's see how many of these things I will be able to achieve before I turn 35. (Ok, I'm not going to tell you when that is)

Do you have any things in mind that you want to achieve by 35/50 or 100?

18 Million cracks and still not broken

When I saw Hillary's final  speech, I felt reassured that women can acheive  whatever they want to if they can dream and have perseverance. If she can come so close to the highest and hardest glass ceiling and make 18 million cracks in it, it'll definitely break  the next time when another woman tries. I respect and admire her for showing the women in this world that anything is possible.
She inspired so many of us to teach our daughters that the role of women in this society is not predetermined by anyone. It's just what we choose to do in our life that should lead us.
I think we still have a long way to go before every woman in this world is given equal opportunity,in running a country or a company or a family.
But we're atleast taking the rights steps toward it.

Changing the world one purchase at a time

This slogan captures what Nest is all about. I have always been interested in micro financing since I heard the term more than a year ago.  This site is an amazing example for what someone living in one corner of the world can do to help people living thousands of miles away. There may be a lot of ground work needed to get this model up and running. But I think once it is done, the potential is enormous. Brand awareness and trust building will be the challenge for these kind of NGO's.I think even if they get 100 customers, 100 families might prosper at a far away place.

Here's an excerpt from Nest's Mission statement : "The mission of Nest is to support women artists and artisans in the developing world by helping them create sustainable entrepreneurial businesses"

Hope you'll take a moment to look at the website and think about those women who can thrive with your help.

Benefit Bar - Not your snack bar

When I saw the name Benefit Bar for the first time, I thought it was some kind of snack/energy bar. But it happens to be an innovative tool that helps in fundraising for good cause. What a great idea and a modern way to help non-profits. You can create a tool bar with your own customized items for IE and Firefox. You can also easily update your messages in the tool bar and connect with prospects constantly.

If you know of a non-profit looking to use innovative ways to raise fund, you should definitely send this info.

WIRED magazine's Geekipedia

WIRED magazine has created a a geek encyclopedia (along the lines of wikipedia) called Wired Geekipedia . I got to read some interesting stuff about string theory and crowdsourcing. If you get bored at work and want to take a short break, do go through this list. You can load your brain with lot of jargons for your next networking event :)

Harry Potter - The Modern Epic

I finished reading the final book in Harry Potter series early this week. I can't believe we stood in line until 1am on Friday to get this book as soon it was released.. But it was very much worth all that effort. I am amazed by JKR's imagination and story telling skills. I definitely wish that my daughter reads all the 7 books and improves her imagination. The final book is about the good and bad characteristics in every human being(including wizards of course). It just proves that you're nothing but the choices you make in your life.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, you would have seen this site. A nice site with all kinds of tidbits and details.

Windows Live Writer is cool

I just downloaded Windows live Writer. Both download and installation were pretty quick. Now I think this will motivate me to write often since I don't have to log on to my space every time and click on edit and then create a blog entry. Let's see how it goes.

You can download WLW here : http://get.live.com/betas/writer_betas

Life 2.0 - in the age of web 2.0

In the recent 'edge' newsletter (http://www.edge.org/documents/archive/edge211.html), I read about this interesting article about Life 2.0. The original link for the article is

I used to often go back and forth between being a god faithful and a science faithful. I always felt the presence of a supreme being who knows much more than what we all know. But there were times when I wondered whether we were being foolish. But after much reading, listening and thinking I have come to the conclusion that it's all about faith. Everyone has to have faith in something to make their life meaningful. The scientists have faith in science and that makes their life meaningful. The average person has faith in god and that give him the moral support he needs to go through the difficulties of life.

Coming back to the article, it sounds like science fiction to me. But only thing is it's not really fiction but fact. While one part of the world is spending millions of dollars in rewriting genetic code, the other part of the world is starving in hunger and dying. Hope the first part can help the second one sooner.

Coming out of blogging hiatus

I didn't post anything for the past 4 months and feel guilty about it.
It's just that I spent more time thinking about what I am going to achieve in life and it made me so distracted.

I have read about writer's block, a condition more relevant to the accomplished writers and not to novices like me.
But I think I often times go into such phase when I  can think about million things but cannot write about even one of them.
That is when I wish there was a w-fi transmitter attached to my brain that would transmit all my thoughts into a nearby portable electronic device.
Well, you never know, may be google is working on such a device becuase that will give them more than enough information to analyze and search.

I have decided(once again!)  to try and post regularly. Let's see how it goes. Meanwhile, if you visit my blog(even if by accident), do leave a message, because that will encourage me to write more :)
